YOUNG SERIES: Young Actors' Studio (English)

(For Youths Aged 13 to 17)

 

Overview

Young Actors’ Studio (English) is designed to impart a comprehensive understanding and vital skills to budding young actors, through exercises with increasing levels of complexity. Individual actors will be grounded in the core elements of performance and equipped with the focus, imagination and confidence to perform a simple play in front of an audience. As a group, the course will also ingrain the collaborative nature of theatre through team-building activities that fosters a spirit of communal effort.

Through in-class performances and constructive feedback among the students, this course also aims to deepen their understanding of the lesson and inculcate the idea that there are always multiple perspectives in art. 

A final performance is incorporated at the end of each semester for students to showcase their talents and understanding on the key learning points.

 

Learning Outcomes

At the of this course students will be able to:

  • Understand and appreciate the fundamentals of acting for camera and screen
  • Perform with sincerity and convey nuanced character
  • Understand and appreciate the use of a variety of styles of script for tv and film
  • Gain personal confidence in acting and performance

Trainer Profile

Andrew James Mowatt began acting at the age of 16 at the Manchester Youth Theatre (UK). From these humble beginnings, he went on to pursue an undergraduate degree in theatre and then a postgraduate course in acting. He has worked as an actor in the UK, and since moving to Singapore, he has worked with major theatre companies and has also worked on local TV and film productions.

Andrew won the Best Actor Award at the 2010 Short and Sweet Theatre Festival and he was also nominated for Best Actor in The Straits Times Life! Awards in 2006. An accomplished, versatile and inspiring actor, Andrew teaches with the same passion as he performs, bringing his knowledge of the theatre industry into the classroom.
