MASTERCLASS: Digital and Social Media for Journalist

 

Overview

This 5-day intensive masterclass will bring a new horizon to traditional journalism. Participants will be introduced to the impact digital social media has on traditional journalism, the differences and how to make use of such new platforms to generate better news and stories.

At the end of the programme, participants will be equipped with advanced skills and knowledge to news reporting on the different social media platforms.

Trainer Profile

Mark Frankel is currently an Assistant Social Media Editor with BBC in the main London newsroom, responsible for it's social media and user generated content. He has played a key role in the development of BBC’s digital and social media strategy and has editorial oversight of it’s core social media channels including @BBCBreaking and BBC News on Facebook. He is responsible for the growth in followers on all BBC’s main social media platforms.

Mark is a 2015 Webby Award Winner, an accolade given for excellence on the internet by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences. His work has also been recognised by the Online Media Awards in 2014 and 2015 for @BBCBreaking.As well as managing a team of staff, Mark is a regular trainer with the BBC Academy and is often called on to present to senior colleagues on digital engagement and audience interaction. 

Mark has worked both as an Output Editor and Commissioning Editor for BBC Radio 4 in news and political programming. He has travelled extensively on official assignment, spending 6 months as a producer in BBC’s Washington bureau.

Mark was born is South Africa and speaks French, basic Japanese and Spanish. He has a BA in History and Politics from Hull University, as well as a M.Sc. in Political Theory from the London School of Economics.
