A comprehensive foundation essential for those who wish to pursue a career in Broadcast Journalism.

 

Overview

Journalists are expected to gather and report news, current event and trends in an objective and unbiased way, in the process serving the public good. This course is a comprehensive introduction to broadcasting utilising lectures, good discussion, viewing excerpts of news broadcasts and features and field assignments, fusing theory with practical applications, with emphasis on individual writing.

 

Learning Outcomes

  • To develop the ability to analyze and critique completed productions
  • To learn the basic principles involved in the television production process
  • To understand and perform the various roles associated with television production
  • To understand the process of researching the story, identifying the news angle, identifying appropriate video shots
  • To identify an appropriate location for the shoot, shooting the interview, recording material with a news camera crew or as a solo operation
  • To shoot the supporting video content, creating media log, preparing story edit script
  • To write, narrate and record voice over in broadcast quality style
  • To edit and finalize the story to be aired
